[nice copy, light wear only to book, slight bumping to lower corners; the jacket shows just a bit of wear at edges and extremities, with one itty-bitty chip and a horizontal crease at the top of the rear panel]. (B&W/color photographs) An annual publication (that only lasted for one more edition after ths one) that attempted to present "coverage of new films on a world scale: from U.S.A. where Arthur Knight takes in the general scene, through Poland, Germany, France, England and Australia and rounding off with a special article by David Robinson on Japanese film." There are 18 articles and essays in all, the highlights being: "Problems of a Bengal Film Maker," by Satyajit Ray; "The Novelist and the Cinema--A Personal Experience," by Graham Greene; "Devil of a New World," by Jean Renoir; "What Film Shall We Make Next?" by Carl Foreman; "Experiment at Brussels," by Karel Reisz; and "Ribbon of Dreams," by Orson Welles. (This was the American (Doubleday) edition of a book that was essentially a British publication (John Calder being the UK publisher), but was actually printed in England.) .
