(B&W photographs) "Faust" re-worked as a baseball musical (derived from Wallop's novel "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant"), which has become a Hardy perennial thanks to the sheer fun inherent in re-staging the Bob Fosse dance numbers (not to mention hating the Yankees). Ray Walston and Gwen Verdon reprised their stage roles as Applegate (Satan) and Lola in the 1958 film version, which upon each re-viewing seems to fall a little bit shorter of one's fond memories of it. .
