By Cronley, Jay
New York: St. Martin's Press. Fine in Very Good+ dj. 1997. First Edition. Hardcover. 0312156553 . [nice tight clean copy, appears unread, NO remainder or other marks; jacket shows slight wear at a couple of corners, light surface wear and some minor scarring near the upper right corner of the front panel, the remnant of the laborious removal of a very recalcitrant old price-sticker]. A very funny novel by a very funny writer, about a discontented married couple, each of whom simultaneously hits on the solution to their problems: hiring a professional killer to eliminate their (well-insured) other half. This was Cronley's last published novel, although another twenty years would pass before his death in 2017. He appears to have left behind something of a cult following, and first editions of most of his eight published novels (including this one) have become relatively scarce -- probably not unrelated to the fact that three had been adapted for high-profile Hollywood movies: "Funny Farm," "Good Vibes" (filmed as LET IT RIDE), and "Quick Change." ("Quick Change" had actually been filmed earlier, as a French-Canadian co-production, HOLD-UP; and one more of his books, "Cheap Shot," was adapted as the 2004 French film NOS AMIS LES FLICS.) .
