Browne (Phiz) & Seymour. two volumes, in a fine binding by Champs and bound from the original parts; with 91 leaves of ads, including the front wrapper of part XV, a few are mounted on thin paper.The plates in part III are by "Phiz" not Buss. Most of the remaining plates are first plates, most notably the quite scarce plate 24, "Mr. Pickwick Slides" (with 4 stakes in ice); plates #17 through 43 are all first plate, first issue (plates 42 and 43 are the frontis and vignette title). Most plates have tanning at edges and light age-toning. Bound without half-title. Binding is three-quarter tan morocco over marbled boards, marbled end papers, top edges gilt. Internally quite clean. Octavo, 8 1/4" x 5 1/2" - a beartiful copy of Dickens' first major novel - the book that made Dickens famous.
