United States, 1928. Very good. Some toning, dust soiling, the occasional spotting. A couple leaves loose, a couple perhaps sometime detached/missing. Binding worn, original ribbon missing.. The sketchbook of an unnamed American artist and presumed bibliophile, with dozens of original watercolors, drawings, and sketches copied from or inspired by medieval manuscripts and im250agery. The individual replicated medieval letter forms and decorated initials with accuracy, bright color and gold paint to mimic gilding; some of the pieces have been labeled with an approx. date and location of the inspiration (e.g. "German School 1434-1519"). At least one was copied from the Boston Art Museum, one was copied from a 13th century psalter located at "Shaw's Art Museum". In addition to the scrapbook, there are eight (8) loose scraps with sketches and two (2) chromolithographed adverts utilizing medieval design that the artist evidently took inspiration from.

Sketchbook is a single volume (7.25" by 10.75"), approx. 40 leaves, about half filled with artwork. Bound in original muted maroon cloth backed in sheep.
