Leeds, MA: Aeife Press, 1984. Broadside. Near Fine. Leonard Baskin. #40 OF 100 COPIES ISSUED BY AEIFE PRESS OF LEEDS, MASSACHUSETTS OF THIS POWERFUL PHILLIS WHEATLEY BROADSIDE, COMMEMORATING THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER DEATH IN 1784. This copy INSCRIBED BY LISA BASKIN, WIDOW OF THE BROADSIDE'S ILLUSTRATOR, THE FORMIDABLE LEONARD BASKIN, whose woodcut ("PHILLIS WHEATLEY, NEGRO SERVANT TO MR. JOHN WHEATLEY, OF BOSTON.") adorns the top of the broadside. A bright, very clean copy -- handsomerly matted and framed as well. The piece measures 8 1/2" wide x 19" tall under the matting, is printed in a lovely light-blue and is in Near Fine condition. A handsome literary tribute to the woman considered the first African-American author of a published book of poetry.
