  • London: Collins & The Book Society, 1953
By John Mortimer
London: Collins & The Book Society, 1953. Very Good/Very Good. London: Collins & The Book Society, 1953. First Edition. Two ALS from John Mortimer laid-in. Octavo (20cm). Unclipped dust jacket. Light gray publisher's cloth binding. Light gray topstain. 254 pp.

Dust jacket foxed with some rubbing and edge wear, closed tear at crown of spine but text is unaffected. Slight lean to spine. Boards faded on edges, corners bumped. Binding sound. Pages clean and unmarked. Overall, book is in very good condition with like jacket.

Two handwritten signed letters from author John Mortimer laid-in. Both are addressed to a "Daniel George," likely Daniel George Bunting who was an editor for the publisher Jonathan Cape at the time. Mortimer's letter dated 27 May 1953 states: "It was very nice of you to write, and your letter gave me great pleasure, as did the kind review I have read in the 'Book Man'. I am naturally very excited about the Book Society Choice and hope the book is good enough for it.
