- Albuquerque, NM: Ad Hoc Committee for a Free University, 1969
Albuquerque, NM: Ad Hoc Committee for a Free University, 1969. Ephemera. 8.5x11 inch handbill, printed on both sides + half-sheet on pink paper. Browned strip at head of 8.5x11 inch sheet; minor creasing to lower right corners of both sheets, otherwise Very Good. Two documents from a campus group at the University of New Mexico in support of Lionel Williams, an English instructor suspended for the use in instruction of the Lenore Kandel poem “Love Lust," with its graphic description of oral sex. Williams, an African American educator, was suspended, as were others in the English department. The handbills demand their reinstatement and call on university president Ferrel Heady to cease investigation of faculty and students and exonerate all affected or face a student strike. Williams was suspended and tried in court, but ultimately cleared of wrong-doing and reinstated.
