Large octavo (24cm); publisher's pale mint green cloth, spine stamped in red and gilt, pictorial endpapers, in original cloth slipcase with pictorial paste-ons to both panels; 311pp.; forty (40) leaves of plates, including reproductions of the 19th century lithographs of Gabriel de Gonet depicting anthropomorphic vegetables; full color photographs; and eighteen original mounted Italian food labels (liquor, olive oil, etc.). Cloth a bit dusty and spine panel quite toned, slipcase particularly dust-soiled and a bit frayed at margins; overall a Very Good and sound copy.
Inscribed and signed by the author on front free endpaper to Enio Carretto, possibly the Cold War-era journalist for La Stampa in Milan. Romeo Salta was a restauranteur "pioneer" of Northern Italian cuisine in midcentury New York City. This work was originally published in the United States in 1962 under the title "The Pleasures of Italian Cooking.
