New York (location of printer). Cunard based in Southampton, England: Cunard Steamship Company, Ltd. Printed by Unz & Co, 1929. First Edition. Hardcover. Paper paste down on boards. Embossed decoration and lettering. Fine/Very Good Plus. A beautiful high Art Deco promotional brochure for Cunard Lines from the golden age of ocean liners with all their glamour. 4to. 28 by 21 cm. 47 pp. Profusely illustrated, with eleven drawn color illustrations that capture the elegance, sophistication and smartness of the passengers as they play, relax, dine and socialize on the ocean crossing. All of these are tall half page illustrations. And then there are 22 black and white photos, each about two-thirds of the page, showing the various well-appointed facilities of Cunard's ships -- the Mauretania, the Berengaria, the Aquitania. Unlike commercial air travel, these ships had individual identities and followings in their day. Among the special aspects of the brochure are also the wave decoration that runs throughout but begins with gold in relief on the cover, with the lettering and seahorse emblem. The brochure was created by the British-based Cunard for the American market, including Canada, as evident by the list of Cunard offices in the U.S. and Canada. Our copy is pristine, or nearly so. We also have the plain brown paper dust jacket, which does have some minor chips or loss.
