St. Philip, Barbados: Annalee Davis for the Lips, Sticks and Marks Collective, 1998. color plates, duotone ports., cat., wrps. Large folio. OCLC: 40476306. Catalogue of the exhibition held at the St. Philip, Barbados, Art Foundry, August 23 to October 25 1998, the Port of Spain, the Museum of PoS and other venues. The traveling exhibition “Lips, Sticks and Marks” featured the artwork of seven women from four Caribbean islands: Alida Martinez (Aruba), Osaira Muyale (Aruba), Annalee Davis (Barbados), Joscelyn Gardner (Barbados), Roberta Stoddart (Jamaica), Susan Dayal (Trinidad&Tobago), Irén, Shaw (Trinidad&Tobago). The exhibition sparked controversy over its focus on installation art as well as questions around who had the right to make “Caribbean” art. Race and class also played major roles in the reception of this exhibition; some regional critics branded the artists as “white” and privileged and took exception to the all-female lineup of artists. Texts in English with a little Papiamento.
