1948. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. SCARCE. PRIVATELY PRINTED, PRESENTATION COPY. Bishop James Henry Straughn (1877-1974) was ordained in the Methodist Protestant Church in 1901 and served as President of Westminster College from 1906-1910. Among his many positions and achievements, he was President of The General Conference of 1936-1939, whose mission was to develop the Plan of Union among the Methodist Protestant Chichi; the Methodist Episcopal Church; and the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The Plan of Union was successfully adopted. Dr. Straughn retired in 1948, after which this privately-published volume was produced. In the Explanation, Dr. Straughn states that many of his personal friends have requested copies of addresses that he delivered, so he was putting together a semi-permanent record. Begins with his Curriculum Vitae through 1948, followed by historical documents related to the union, and then by 8 of his addresses, including his retirement address of 1948. A very interesting and rare historical document for those interested in the history of the Methodist Church in America. Pages are printed one-sided and appear to be direct copies of typewritten documents. Inscribed by Dr. Straughn to a dear friend whose last name was Pollitt. Quarto. Very good in black cloth with gilt lettering. Religion. REL1/2230.
