The author traveled to the region intending to write a report on the project, but ended up writing about the workers, many of them from Europe and elsewhere, who were dedicating their lives to the project. Contains many black-and-white photographs of the workers, their living conditions, and their work environment. Maps to front and rear endpapers and occasional maps in text block.
