He was the son of a silk merchant and lamented the changes brought by modern culture to the manners and niceties of business practices of old New York, on which he expounded in his book "Recollections of an Old New Yorker". In this book, he reflects on 51 engravings, including The Birth of Venus, The Taj Mahal, View from West Point, The Narrows, and others. Black cloth backed blue paper covered boards with black title to front board. Wear to interior includes minor bumping to corners and spine ends, chipping to foot of spine, and a few small spots of soiling to rear board. Author's inscription to front free end page. Else is clean and bright with black and white illustrations throughout. 140 pages. Art. ART111081.
