New York: Alfred A Knopf, 1972. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Hardcover. Roy Medvedev (1925-present) is a Russian historian and politician. He was very critical of Joseph Stalin and Stalinism, from the perspective of Marxism. He was expelled from the Communist Party in 1969 when this book, Let History Judge, was published outside the Soviet Union. He was part of a group of Soviet intellectuals, including Andrei Sakharov, who openly called for political reform in the Soviet Union. Medvedev rejoined the Communist Party under Gorbachev. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, he was a founding member of Socialist Party of Working People. This is a scholarly work analyzing the personalities and motivations of Stalin and his cohort, and describing how he believes they perverted the fabric of Soviet society. Octavo. Brown cloth-covered boards with Medvedev's initial in black to front cover and title in gilt to spine. Cream dust jacket with title in red to front and spine panels. Front and rear boards are slightly bowed and faded. Dust jacket has minor bumping at top edge. Pages are bright and clean. There is a small smudge at the bottom of the text block. 566 pages and an 18-page index. POLSCI/8072.
