By Chiuso, Giorgione di Castel
London: R. and M. Stoddart, 1821. Hardcover. Good. Hardcover. SCARCE. Giorgione Di Castel Chiuso was the pseudonym for Peter Bayley (1778-1823), an English writer and poet. Through his pursuit of music and drama, he was neglectful of finances and ended up in debtor's prison. After his release, he turned his attention to poetry. His fist published poetry was in 1803. In 1820, as Giorgione di Castel Chiuso, he published a volume of verse titled Sketches from St George's-in-the-Fields, containing interesting descriptions of various phases of London life. A second series appeared in 1821. This volume is the Second Series. Small octavo. Good textured dark green cloth covered boards with gilt title to spine. Corners bumped and rubbed, front hinge cracked and repaired; front flyleaf and half-title page are partly loose. Light foxing throughout, though text is bright. Poetry. POE1/2182.
