He is sent to London by his father to learn about the ways of world, and meets a variety of people including a gambler and a beautiful woman. He learns about himself and his flaws while being seduced by high society and the city life. English author Theodore Hook (1788 - 1841) is best known for his practical jokes including receiving the world's first postcard, which he likely mailed to himself as a joke on the postal service workers who were depicted in caricature on the card.

In three quarter leather with marbled paper covered boards. Volume 1 has extensive rubbing to detached front board and rubbing to rear board. Edge wear and large chip to head of spine. Interior is clean overall. Volume 2 has exterior rubbing and wear with wear to outer front hinge. Foxing to early and late pages. Volume 3 is missing original spine piece. It has been rebacked with new leather, although there is no title or decoration to the spine. Foxing to first and last few pages. This set may require an extra shipping fee. LIT1609061.
