Frederic Farrar (1831-1903) was a senior cleric of the Church of England, as well as being a schoolteacher, philologist and author. He was the Archdeacon of Westminster from 1883-1894, and Dean of Canterbury from 1895 until he died. Farrar was also elected to the Royal Society in 1866 for his philological work. He was a prolific author, with many of his writings being on language and religion. He also wrote fiction, especially stories about school life in Victorian England. This is one of his novels about school life, first published in 1859. Small octavo. Maroon cloth-covered boards with gilt title to spine. Front and rear boards show wear, and spine and top of boards are sunned. Pages are yellowed, with light foxing on many, but are clear. 420 pages.
