Savage (1918-2007) received an M.D. from the University of Chicago in 1945 and an M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College in 1999. He was most well-known as a psychoanalyst. He published approximately fifty papers on psychopharmacology and psychoanalysis, and he was a member of the editorial board of Psychiatry and a member of the American Psychiatric Association and American Psychoanalytic Association. Savage was also a poet and published, in both Spanish and English, Las Tinieblas en el Dia de Pentecostes. Facing pages contain the English and Spanish versions of the poems. This is a presentation copy from 2000 to Doctor Barbara Young, "since 1950 kindred spirits in the labyrinth of psychoanalysis." Barbara Young was a renowned psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins and in private practice. She was also a highly-regarded photographer whose pioneering color photography hangs in many museums and has been published in book form. She died of cancer in Baltimore in 2002, just shy of her 102nd birthday. Fine condition in maroon leatherette with gold embossing. Presentation copy signed by the author.
