He was a member of the delegation from Baltimore County to the Maryland House of Delegates from 1931-1935. Alexander's historical and biographical writings include The American Talleyrand: Martin Van Buren; Aaron Burr: The Proud Pretender; and To Covet Honor: A Biography of Alexander Hamilton. He also wrote a number of books about the growth of American and international cities. Selina: A Romantic Novel is an unusual fictional effort by Alexander.
