Howard Sachar (1928-2018) was an American historian and a professor at the Department of History and the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University for 40 years He also served as a visiting professor at Hebrew University and Tel Aviv University, and founded Brandeis University's Jacob Hiatt Institute in Jerusalem. This book provides the historical context of the relationship between Egyptians and Jews that led up to Anwar Sadat's visit to Israel and 1977 and the subsequent Camp David accords negotiated by Menachim Begin, Sadat, and Jimmy Carter. This history begins with Zionist visits to the Sinai in 1903 and continues through the world wars and into the Cold War era when Egypt was courted by the Soviet Union.
