New York: The John Day Company, 1928. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. Eleanor Carroll Chilton (1898-1949) was the daughter of a U.S. senator and graduated from Smith College in 1922. She is primarily known as a novelist. She published her first novel, Shadows Waiting, in 1926, and her second novel, The Burning Fountain, in 1929 while she was living in London. In London Chilton also published with Herbert Agar (her partner) and Willis Fisher this volume of poetry. In 1933, Chilton married Agar, a poet, critic, newspaper columnist, and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for history. Chilton's last novel, Follow the Furies, appeared in 1935. This was her most well-known novel about a daughter, following her father's rationalist philosophy, who performs a mercy killing of her mother and subsequently commits suicide. Herbert Agar (1897-1980) was an American journalist and historian, and an editor of the Louisville Courier-Journal. Agar won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1934 for his 1933 book The People's Choice, a critical look at the American presidency. Little is known of Willis Fisher. 8vo.
