By Greider, William
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1997. Hardcover. Fine. Hardcover. William Greider (1936-2019) was an American journalist and author who wrote primarily about economics. After several jobs as a reporter for Midwestern newspapers, he began working for The Washington Post in 1968, and then moved to Rolling Stone magazine (1982-1999), where he was a National Editor. He was also an on-air correspondent for Frontline on PBS. Greider's most well-known work is Secrets of the Temple: How the Federal Reserve Runs the Country (1987). One World, Ready or Not: The Manic Logic of Global Capitalism (1997) is focused on the seemingly inexorable rush to globalization of the world economy that was taking place at the turn of the century, much to the dismay of many citizens around the world, who protested vociferously (and sometimes violently) against the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund. Greider raises concerns about the vulnerabilities and inequities of the global economy. His work was criticized by many economists for errors and for lack of consultation with economists. However, in our current time, his and others' concerns about globalization have been somewhat vindicated and have resulted in some swing back to nationalization of economic interests. Large octavo.
