Potapenko (1856-1929), was a Russian writer and playwright who was born in a village now part of Ukraine, where his father was a priest. Potapenko studied at Odessa University, and at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. His first works were about Ukrainian life. He is best known for his novel A Russian Priest (1890). The General's Daughter was first translated into English in 1892. First edition of this translation done by W. Gaussen for the "Pseudonym Library." SCARCE. Very good minus in gray cloth boards with black rules to top and bottom of boards and spine, along with black author name and title. Frayed along front and back board edges with chipping to spine ends and bumping to corners. Interior is clean with slight aging to page margins. 261 pages. LIT/030608.
