He also kept a series of notebooks filled with passage that struck him in his daily reading. The notebooks extended over a period of 37 years, from 1852 until his death in 1888. This volume contains extracts from those notebooks. The early notebooks from 1852-1861 are all considered, as they were not voluminous. After that, entries are included from every 5th year, from 1863-1888. This work was compiled by his daughter, Eleanor Wodehouse, who was married to Armine Wodehouse, a Minister of Parliament. Includes a preface by Mrs. Wodehouse. 8vo. White cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Spine darkened. Front hinge is starting. Minor rubbing to boards and wear to spine ends.
