Bearing a contemporary inscription by the author: "Mr. Serjeant Talfourd from his sincere friend the author, 13th Nov. 1841." Talfourd was a judge and friend of the literati of his day. He was one of Dickens' intimates and often advised the authors he knew on legal matters.
