Pen and ink on paper. 7-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches. Fine. Pen and ink on paper. 7-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches. Owen D. Young (1874-1962), trained as a lawyer, was a man of many parts. He was an industrialist, chairman of General Electric and founder of RCA; a public servant, serving as member of various international conferences and later on heading several NY State commissions; and a prominent collector of rare books, whose collection reposes in the New York Public Library. He was badly burned by the 1929 stock market crash, and, perhaps for this reason, has never quite gotten credit for being the effective individual he unquestionably was. He writes of Eisenstaedt: “You may take the next pictures when I have a birthday 25 years hence [ie, his 100th].”.
