London: Printed for Richard Royston, 1663. First edition. [8], 116 pp. 1 vols. Small 4to. Modern plain blue wrappers. Fine copy. First edition. [8], 116 pp. 1 vols. Small 4to. "Although Womock was no doubt assiduous in his duties as minister and archdeacon—evidence survives of his eagerness to thwart presbyterian patrons from appointing semi-conforming incumbents—he made his way in the church through his dogged self-promotion and his relentlessly controversial writings. His first publication, in 1641, was a defence of set liturgies and this was a theme to which he returned in a series of tracts at the Restoration. In the last years of the interregnum he debated Arminianism and then the solemn league and covenant with Richard Baxter, Henry Hickman, and Zachary Crofton, and throughout the 1660s and 1670s published a steady stream of sermons and other works asserting the need for strict conformity and loyalty to the Anglican establishment."
