Series on Brazilian art history with the main topics related to Brazilian plastic arts and architecture in a clear and simple presentation. The volumes are divided in two parts: an introductory presentation of the main topic and the analytical study of related artworks and architecture found in museums and other places of public access. This volume is a graphic representation of the art and architecture of the Brazilian Empire period and its consequent influence in the beginning of the Republican era. The author portraits the glorification of the 19th century Brazil elite society and their interest for ethnic aspects, during a period where neoclassic and eclectic art and architecture represented the aspirations of constructing a great nation, justifying the construction of palaces, grand theaters and majestic public monuments.
