Chicago & St. Louis, 1882. 358, viii, [9]-287pp. plus plates. Original publisher's cloth, stamped in black and gilt. Extremities worn, binding rubbed and lightly soiled. Hinges tender. Modern bookplate and contemporary ownership inscription on front flyleaf. Light scattered soiling and foxing, a few small tears. Fair. In a blue half morocco and cloth slipcase, spine gilt. 358, viii, [9]-287pp. plus plates. A pulpy and cheaply-produced work on the James brothers and the Younger gang, with a frontispiece of Jesse James as he appeared after his death.  Comprised of two parts, the first being about the James brothers and the second about the Youngers.  "Part II is the same as Appler's GUERILLAS OF THE WEST, 1876 edition.  Note the similarity of nearly all these books about the James brothers" - Adams.  The quality of the production is such that finding a copy in nice condition is quite rare.
