Our poem commences:
"Shoddyville as some of my heroes may know,
Is a place that has grown-is a place that must grow
The people there tell me, without any doubt
That the village, as yet, is hardly laid out,
That taking the factories, just as they stand,
With others already projected and planned,
Adding also the water-power still unemplyed
and site such as few places ever enjoyed,
With a Shoe-making interest just creeping in
An a shop going up for making tin
