[No place: USNS James O'Hara], 1956. Softcover. Very Good. Mimeograph newsletter. 8pp. Single blue sheets attached with a single staple. Wear to the corners and some age-toning, very good. The "Okinawa Souvenir Edition" of this daily newsletter distributed onboard the USNS James O'Hara, an Army transportation ship first commissioned on Christmas Day 1942. Originally used to carry troops and supplies to the islands of the South Pacific, it was converted into an assault vehicle by the Navy and saw action in Northern Africa and Italy, winning two battle stars for its involvement in the invasion of Italy. After the war it was used as a dependents' transport shuttling civilians and troops from the West Coast to the Japan. The newsletter relates news of the day, the ship history, and a message from the commanding officer.
