John Pringle (1707-1782) was born in Scotland, and would become an important military physician. In 1742 Pringle was appointed physician to the army in Flanders, and in 1744 he would become physician general.He did some innovative work in the field of epidemiology, and he is probably best known for his "A Discourse upon some Late Improvemnets.. for... Preserving the Health of Mariners...,"published in 1776. The present work is a scientific examination of the properties and characteristics of air.
