12mo 2 volumes decorative brown cloth. Illustrated 326+ 303 pp. Bindings show some wear at edges. Library stamp, and some dampstaining in bottom of volume one. Other minor soiling and aging. This is an early edition of a classic hunting tale. The book made Cumming (1820-1866) quite popular at the time. Contains a fair amount of material on native tribes, and gives a feel for what is involved in hunting lions, elephants and hippos. Mendelssohn I 657 “The narrative is valuable for the account of the state of the country at this period, as well as for the excellent description afforded the natives of the interior, and the up-country Boers.”
