By Dibble, Sheldon
Small 8vo, later ¾ red morocco and boards, folding frontispiece map and title page supplied in Facsimile, 451pp. Slight rubbing to covers, a couple of small chips to leather spine, map and title in facsimile, lacks plates and appendix, first preface page soiled, torn, ripped, and crudely fixed with cellophane tape, loss of a few words, but supplied in manuscript, pencil editorial notes throughout, moderate foxing. This is a rare early history of Hawaii, and the first full-scale history of the islands. According to Forbes, this was an extremely important document. Some copies include a 20 page appendix, but this one does not. The four plates are also missing, but that isn’t unusual for this work. Pencil notes on endpapers indicate this book was used by the editor of the reprint that was published in Honolulu in 1909.
