2 Vols. 8vo contemporary calf [8] [6] 360 [6] 360 pp. plus errata page. Joints are cracked and one cover from each volume is detached. Titles are attached to loose cover. Some wear to edges, and a couple of chips on volume one binding exposing the boards a bit. Corner of endpaper in volume one torn. Scattered foxing and aging throughout, but still pretty clean internally. Overall in decent condition. David Ramsay (1749-1815) was born in Lancaster County Pennsylvania, and graduated from the college of New Jersey in 1765. After finishing medical school in 1772 he entered politics, and from 1776 until the end of the revolutionary War he represented Charleston in the legislature. During the war he and 32 others were actually sent into exile to St. Augustine for a year. Between 1782 and 1785 Ramose was a delegate to the Continental Congress. Ramose had considerable political success, but he had his share of misfortune losing wives and personal bankruptcy. He is best known as a historian. . In addition to the present work, he published The Revolution of South Carolina, in 1785 and The Life of George Washington in 1807.
