This volume provides a compact history of parks in NYC, including Central Park. Perhaps more importantly, this work attempts to justify expansion of the park system in New York. The author argues that population pressures, and the need to plan in advance require investment in new parks now. Mullally tries to make a case that these park investments won’t impair the credit of the city, or retard other necessary expenditures, since by increasing the value of real estate in new park areas, this will provide additional revenues to cover most of the costs.
