- New York: J. & J. Harper, 1835
12mo (7 ½ x4 ½ ), original cloth, paper spine label, 209,[4] pp. Covers are rubbed and chipped at the corners, edges, and spine ends. Label is somewhat faded, ink name on front pastedown, and damp stain on top corners affecting some text; else good to very good. This unauthorized biography of Crockett (1786-1836) is attributed to James S. French, and was first published in 1833. While this version of Crockett’s life wasn’t that accurate, neither were most of the others. Crockett’s popular appeal at that time seemed to transcend accuracy, as people were eager to read anything they could about this frontier hero. This edition came out a year before Crockett met his fate at the Alamo.
