New York: The Dial Press. Very Good+ in Good dj. 1948. First Edition. Hardcover. [very light bumping to bottom corners, spine very slightly turned, one-time owner's signature at top of front pastedown; jacket well-worn at edges and corners, some paper loss at both ends of spine, crease down middle of spine, soiling to rear panel]. Another "novel of violence and primitive passions," although it's hard to imagine the author having had much of that left over after his earlier novel, "Duel in the Sun." "Sun," of course, was made into one of the most famously overheated movies of the Forties (or any decade, really), whereas the film of "The Furies," directed by Anthony Mann in 1950, is a considerably darker affair (and somewhat kinkier, as a daughter-vs.-father revenge melodrama). .
