By Traven, B.
Zurich: Buchergilde Gutenberg, 1949. German language edition. Hardcover. 191pp. Small quarto [24 cm] Moss green cloth covered boards with dark brown ink stamped titles and a brown ink stamped design on the front cover. Very good. The front cover is slightly concave. The spine is faded, and the edges of the covers are very subtly faded. The corners of the covers are gently bumped. B. Traven is one of the most mysterious figures of 20th-century literature. His true identity is still subject to much doubt. Although Traven claimed to be an American, his most famous works were first published in Germany during the 1920s and 1930s. Nothing definitive is known about Traven's beginnings. Never the less, Traven's novels have been translated into more than 30 languages and they have sold more than 25 million copies.
