Frances Trollope was an English novelist and writer who is said to have influenced such authors as Harriet Beecher Stowe. Her first book is her best known, but her social novels were influential in their time, and took strong anti-slavery or anti-Catholic stances. Her novels are not often read today, in part -- paradoxically -- because she was so prolific and observational a writer.
