He was an American historian, author, and librarian, including a period as assistant librarian at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. Wroth wrote over 550 pieces, but his most well-known are two books on colonial printing: A History of Printing in Colonial Maryland: 1686-1776 (1922) and The Colonial Printer (1931). Both books cover first colonial printing presses, colonial printing houses, typeset, printing ink, paper, journeymen, apprentices, conditions of the trade, and bookbinding. This book is a first edition of the colonial Maryland book and is an excellent reference on printmaking with a well researched history on Maryland's colonial presses beginning with the Nuthead Press. Grey cloth boards with gilt title and decoration to spine. Interior is clean aside from a few small scattered spots of foxing and a couple of fold pages. 275 pages. MD/052511.
