Washington DC: National Gallery of Art, 1996. Paperback. Fine in wraps. Paperback. Robert and Jane Meyerhoff were well-known art collectors and philanthropists in the Baltimore area. Robert was a real estate developer in Baltimore, and Jane was a graduate of Goucher College, which has a Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Arts Center completed in 1991. Robert was also on the Board of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The couple began collecting art seriously in 1958, buying Hans Hofmann’s Autumn Gold. Over several decades they assembled an exceptional collection of works ranging from expressionist to pop and abstract to figurative. In particular, the Meyerhoffs focused on five artists—Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and Frank Stella—who led a new, rising generation of American painters. The also bought works on many other artists, including Robert Motherwell and And Warhol. The Meyerhoffs donated their collection to the National Gallery of Art. This is a catalogue of a National Gallery of Art exhibition of the Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Collection, held in 1996. Includes 189 color reproductions of works in the exhibition, as well as an index of artists and an index of the painting. A very nice catalog. 4to. Colorful paper wrappers of detail of Hans Hoffman's Autumn Gold (1957) on both front and rear covers, with black title to front wrapper and white title to black spine. Pristine interior filled with full color illustrations throughout. 263 pages. ART/052711.
