Pamphlet, 8vo, original printed wrappers, [77] pp. Spine portion of wrapper mostly gone, and a few other minor chips and tears at edges. Library stamp on front wrapper. Normal aging. Overall very good. The Red Cloud Indian Agency was established in 1871 for Chief Red Cloud and his original Ogalala band of Lakota near Fort Laramie in Wyoming. By 1874, relations between the tribes and the Agency were souring, and some of the Indians joined hostile forces and a few even copped down the Agency’s flagpole. During these difficult times between the Agency and the Indians, Othniel March, the famous professor of Paleontology at Yale arrived on the scene, and developed a relationship with Chief Red Cloud. He was shocked and horrified to learn of the poor quality and limited amount of supplies being provided by the Agency. When he returned east, Marsh made quite a fuss about how the Indians were being cheated, which was carried in a series of articles in the newspapers, public reaction was strong and as a result, the investigation presented in this pamphlet was launched. In this instance the Indians eventually received what they were promised.
