Pamphlet, 8vo, 40 pp., with folding chart. 1st edition. Removed, dbd, with chart detached and in two pieces, with a 3” tear on top part of first piece, and loss of a few numbers. Some soiling and foxing, and water stain affecting last 24 pp. Crawford (1772-1834) was a Senator, cabinet member, and presidential candidate. He was also a product of his times, and killed Peter L. Van Allen in a duel in 1802, and was himself seriously wounded in another duel with John Clark in 1806. After becoming a Senator in 1807, he became the Secretary of War and then Secretary of the Treasury under Madison. Crawford became a serious presidential candidate, but the party nomination went to Monroe. This pamphlet addresses the financial condition of the Bank of the United States, including the amount of capital it had at the time, some $125 million, but also talks about the use of currency, paper and coin. Seems to suggest that coin was easily counterfeited. The table illustrates how the bank is capitalized.
