Le Mercier was born in 1692 in Caen France. He graduated from Geneva, and in 1715 came to America through the influence of Andrew Faneuil. He was selected to become the new pastor of the French Protestant church in Boston, where he presided till 1748. In 1737 while on board the ship Catherine returning from a trip to Europe he was shipwrecked off the coast of the island of Sable. He set up a relief house for the relief of shipwrecked mariners on the Isle of Sables. The present volume, which is believed to be a scarce work, is one of two works he published.
