  • Boston:: John P. Jewett,, 1857.
By Parker, Nathan H.
Small 8vo (7 1/4 x 4 3/4), original red cloth with gilt lettering, hand colored folding lithographed map as frontispiece, 160 pp. Some minor staining and wear to binding, but sound, bookplate on pastedown, light foxing within, a couple of minor tears on map, which is in very nice shape; overall very good. Parker claims to provide accurate information on the resources, soil and climate of the Minnesota Territory, which he believed was on the verge of Statehood. He provides the reader with a brief history, a view of the upper Mississippi, some of the territory's important towns and villages, and a look at what life in the West was all about. The map, which is by J.H. Colton, extends west to the Missouri River, and contains about half of present day North and South Dakota. Howes P85.
