16mo, original black cloth with gilt lettering on front cover, illustrated, 624 pp. Small tear to top of spine, library label on front pastedown covering part of an advertisement; otherwise in excellent condition. This directory is double the size of directories published by Wilson just a decade earlier, reflecting business growth in New York City. It contains numerous full-page advertisements, many of which are on colored paper. The ads cover everything from billiard tables to soap products. The Wilson Directory was published from 1848 to 1884. A nice piece of New York City commercial history.
