Salt Lake City, UT: Andrew Jenson, 1889. Leather bound. 1011; 62pp. Octavo [25 cm] Original calf with raised bands and black leather labels on backstrip. Very good. Heavy rubbing to extremities. The leather of the spine and covers is a bit darkened and mottled as well. There is a small chip in the leather along the top edge of the front cover. The spine labels have thin cracks and are chipped along the edges. The corners of the covers are gently bumped. The top edge of the text block is darkened. The endsheets are cracked along the hinges, however the book is still sturdy. There is a contemporary owner's name, along with a date, on the front free endsheet. The edges of the endsheets and flyleaves are subtly darkened, and the pages are age-toned. There are thin moisture stains along the bottom edges of pages at the beginning. The larger stains measure 3 and 1/2 inches wide by 1/4 inch deep. A few of the pages at the beginning are trimmed short. There are occasional small or light stains on the pages. There is a 1 inch closed tear in the margin of p. 220. There is a large nick in the fore edge of p. 325, not affecting the text. Originally published monthly as a periodical in variant wrappers later issued as a nine volume set. Volumes 1-4 published under the Danish title Morgensternen. Because of the well-written articles it was asked if Andrew Jenson would complete the series in English. Volumes 1-4 have never been translated and published for the general public.Flake/Draper 4402. Scallawagiana 73.
