Small 4to. Modern stiff gray wrappers, small perforation affecting last three penultimate leaves, with slight loss, title leaf soiled, very good overall. First edition in German, translated from the Latin published in April of the same year. Lives of early Augsurg saints (Ulric, Saint, Bishop of Augsburg, 890-973; Simpert, Saint, Bishop of Augsburg, 778-807; and Afra, Saint, of Augsburg, d. ca. 304), translated from the Latin (Gloriosorum Christi confessorum Uldarici et Symperti) printed in April of the same year by Otmar. This first German edition was printed only a few months later with the same wonderful woodcuts by Leonard Beck, who was an assistant to Hans Holbein the Elder, and worked as a propagandist, designing woodcuts for works promoting Emperor Maximilian I.
Sylvan Otmar was one of the most prolific and important printers of the early 16th century in Augsburg, printed several works for the local religious institutions of Augsburg, and later printed several reformation tracts by Luther.
